Does Your Life Feel Like a To-do List?
Padma Gordon
When life is a series of completing things and going to appointments, are you living fully? What does it mean to be living? One of the things we uncovered in our Spiritual Self-Care Workshop was that really living means giving yourself some breathing room to be in your heart.
Taking time to savor the moment can be challenging for you as a Rare mother. By slowing down you can enjoy your Rare child as they are. The invitation is to be with them rather than continuously evaluating their progress, whether they are developing, or if any new issues have appeared.
Your body is your ally in this.
Here is a practice to support you:
Step One: Close your eyes and notice your body sensations. There is no right or wrong, only what is happening at the moment..
As you take the time to rest into the moment, you nourish the connection with your own body.
Step Two: Ask yourself this question: What am I noticing right now in my body?
As you turn your attention toward your body, notice how your body responds. You are cultivating a relationship with yourself. Unlike any relationship, if you want it to grow, you have to put energy into it.
What if you put yourself at the top of the list?
What if as an experiment you put aside five minutes each day to notice your experience in your body?
Why do this?
This practice can be very centering and grounding. By doing it, you anchor into a sense of calm that you can access in moments that may be challenging like when you become worried or frustrated because a medication has not arrived or a medical professional isn’t listening.
Your body is your ally once you learn to listen to it. It can support you in staying regulated in tough moments.

Skipping over yourself and your basic needs can create a ton of stress inside of you and consequently in your family. Come and join us in our Spiritual Self-Care Workshop and be nourished.
Give yourself a chance to be seen and heard by other Rare mothers who "get" you. It is a chance to be reminded that you are not alone. We meet on Tuesday mornings at 10 AM Pacific Time. We do a short meditation followed by some journaling and then have an open conversation. Please bring a pen and paper. Come as you ARE. Come late. Come in your sweatpants. You are welcome.
