Moving with the Tides

This past week in our Spiritual Self-Care Workshop we reflected on the tidal movement in our lives. We meditated and then journaled using the following question as a prompt:

How do I tend to myself as the tides of my child's health ebb and flow?

It was a hard question to answer. You as a Rare mother may or may not have practices for tending to yourself as you witness your child going through seemingly endless changes and challenges. You may feel like a lone boat out at sea which is the case for many Rare mothers. It's a very solitary role and maybe you feel isolated and alone. If you do, you've come to the right place. Our Spiritual Self-Care Workshop is a safe space for you to show up as you ARE. This in and of itself is nourishing especially if you've been at sea for a long time.

The tides of life and health ebb and flow and the possibility is to tap into that which doesn't come and go.

It Lives in YOU. It Breathes through YOU. It is Your Essential NATURE.

Call it the Divine, the Great Mystery, Source or whatever is true for you. This is what will sustain you as the tides of life move and flow. Paying attention to this is the focus of our time together in the workshop.

Would you like to learn how to anchor into yourself more deeply? Are you willing to spend just a few minutes a day to grow your connection to your heart?

Here are a couple of simple ways you can cultivate this connection:

1. Notice your breath.

You can ride the tide of your breath as it rises and falls into the sanctuary of your own heart. Set a timer and take 3-5 minutes to do this each morning at the start of your day before you jump into managing your life and focusing on your child and family. Take some time for YOU.

This is a wonderful way to set the tone for your day and establish a grounded connection with yourself. A few minutes of conscious breathing will change how you live and how you love and care for those around you.

2. Pause and Be Present with Joy

Sometimes as a Rare mother, you may find yourself on autopilot as you administer meds or feed your child or give them a bath. You do many things for them that they cannot do for themselves. One Rare mother described it as "going through the motions and finding that the joy had gone out of being with her son." This is a powerful realization.

If you find yourself going through the motions, pause. Take a moment to breathe and arrive more fully in the present moment.

Begin again with whatever you are doing and do it with JOY! Bring the joy of loving and caring for your child to the task at hand.  It will make a difference in how you relate to them and open the doorway to the joy of being together.
