Changing Seasons
Paige Rogers
For a few days this past week in Chicago we experienced the first warm and sunny days in quite some time. I spent my entire day outside— this is one of the few benefits of a virtual world, the ability to bring my work outside. It was great.
And then the next day I woke up and the sky was completely grey and raining. It was a bitter disappointment.
To see thunderstorms on the weather forecast right after the beautiful weather was not a juxtaposition I was fond of. I felt discouraged and disappointed. I am ready for a season of warmth and sunshine. It felt like something I deserved had been ripped from me...
And then I came across this quote by philosopher, essayist, poet, and novelist, George Santayana: “To be interested in the changing seasons is a happier state of mind than to be hopelessly in love with spring.”
This got me thinking about something. Maybe I am so focused— maybe even too focused— with the moment when the changes are over, when the destination is reached, when I feel settled in a routine, when I receive an answer, when spring finally comes, that I become unable to see beauty and purpose in the moments before? Shall we be cliche and say, the journey? I focus so hard on spring that it becomes challenging to see the good things in the moments leading to it.
ANGEL AID is here to support your journey at every moment, whether your spring has come or not.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I don't think it was by accident that it's on the calendar in spring. Let's take advantage of this month to focus on our mental and emotional well-being! But let's not forget that we don't need spring, or a task to be finished, or a to-list to be completed, to do it.
I am going to challenge myself this month to not focus so much on what life might look like once I finally reach the next moment, and instead enjoy all the moments. Will you join me?
Some really great (and more ‘concrete’) way to start focusing on these moments is by joining our self-care workshops!

Join us for Spiritual Self-Care each Tuesday through June 30, 2021 at 10 am PST / 12 pm CST / 5 pm GMT here. In this workshop, Mindfulness Counselor Padma Gordon will lead the group through a short meditation, followed by a discussion about spirituality. While everyone experiences spirituality differently, we can all benefit from improving our connection with the things that move our soul. By slowing down and reconnecting with your spirituality you can tap an inner strength and calm that you can tap during difficult times.
