Places We Go when Things Are Uncertain Or To Much
Places We Go When Things Are Uncertain or Too Much

Life has so many layers, and we can easily get lost in the details. An analogy I recently heard is that we are actually the whole ocean… the waves, the froth and the depths are parts of us, but not our whole. And when we get caught up feeling just one aspect of our lives, it can keep us from recognizing and experiencing this feeling of wholeness.
Some say our minds and our racing thoughts bring us down. While this can be true, our minds aren’t all bad. It allows us to create, learn, visualize, and plan! Yet, it can skew the truth as well. In our group, we spoke about when things are uncertain, we avoid, we distract, we escape. The stress and overwhelm come into play; although it doesn’t feel playful at all. Anxiety can be a part of these, as can worry, fear, and dread.
Some of the tips that Rare Mothers shared bring us into Ease, Hope, Presence, and, even, Excitement were to…
- Look at the little positives.
- Look for the beauty in the pain.
- Relishing the moment however you can.
- Finding peace in a breath.
- Feeling hope with setting realistic goals.
- Developing alternative pathways in your mind (and life).
- Creating agency by believing in yourself… which can lead to joy.
- Excitement about a small step.
- Vulnerability with someone you can trust to receive you.
Many Rare Mamas spoke about reading the title of the session and saying to themselves, “That’s too hard,” or “I’m not willing to feel that today.”
I want to make it clear that feeling this way is normal and beautifully more than okay. You are the one in it, you know you and you know your body. Yet most also followed it up saying, “I’m really glad I came, because someone said exactly what I needed.” So being willing to be vulnerable with the people who are living it with you can give you a grace you didn’t know you could have.
The underlying aspect is that we have access to support. There are others who have experienced the uncertain and the unexpected. You have people who can and will hold your hand (and most likely will find a way to laugh a bit too).
Here, you are welcome, wanted and held.
